Depending on their individual developmental stages in life all children have
unique needs and concerns. Counseling and therapy have these essential
components. A combination of listening and talking as well as building a
supportive and trusting relationship with the therapist or counselor helps to form
the therapeutic relationship. It may take several meeting with a therapist before
a child is comfortable enough to share.
Therapy sessions are learning sessions for children. They learn to develop new
ways of building skills to cope with troubling thoughts or change in their lives.
Our therapists have taken course work in human development and various Child
Therapy approaches.
A therapist has special skills in talking, listening and observation. They support
and encourage both the child and family members during the process of
counseling and therapy.
Sometimes children themselves recognize that something is wrong while other
times parents or teachers identify a difficulty or situation Therapy can help a
child understand what may be making them sad, worried or behaving in ways
that may cause them problems in their daily lives at home or at school.
"We searched for a counselor who could help our daughter understand the
issues affecting her relationships at school, and home. The counselor at
Coastal Counseling Associates helped Lea and our family understand what
she was going through." Lauren
